Biodiversity Offset Management Area Monitoring

Undertake the year 6 monitoring survey for the Offset area as per the OAMP.

Challenges

The year six survey was undertaken during June 2020 when stringent travel and COVID restrictions were in place across Australia. E2M ensured safety documentation was up to date with the latest on site requirements and the adaptive on the ground approach achieved the objective of the assessment while coordinating with ongoing changes.

Innovation

E2M completed the surveys on-time, without incident, within budget and in accordance with the scope. The Offset report was submitted to the Department of Environment and Science as part of the clients EA requirements. Two additional reports (Weed Action Plan and PNRW survey) were sent as part of the deliverables to the client.

E2M completed the surveys on-time, without incident, within budget and in accordance with the scope.

Outcomes

E2M provided Ernest Henry Mine (the client) with an additional scope to conduct a site weed survey and provide a weed action plan. EHM opted for the additional inclusion, resulting in a weed action plan demonstrating how key bio condition outcomes could be reached through active/ targeted management. E2M utilised trimbles TDC600 devices loaded with a project specific schema for consistent and reliable data capture. The site team were able to map the high risk areas across the project area with the highest possible degree of accuracy and efficiency. An additional fauna monitoring survey of a vunerable species (Purple neck rock wallaby) related to the Offset survey was undertaken while E2M were in the area. This provided the client with cost savings measures by eliminating additional mobilisation and reducing equipment hire costs.
